A new trade proposal has emerged this weekend that would send Vancouver Canucks veteran forward Evander Kane to a Western Conference contender before the deadline.
The Winter Olympics wrap up today, with the Closing Ceremony in Italy this afternoon, which means we’re getting ever so close to the National Hockey League returning and the roster freeze lifting at 8:59 pm PT this evening.
“Evander Kane’s agent Dan Milstein has been given permission to help facilitate a trade for his client.” NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal said last month.
Evander Kane dealt to Western Conference contender in new trade proposal
Given his experience, especially in the postseason with back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances under his belt, there’s been plenty of interest around the league in Evander Kane, whether it be the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars or Los Angeles Kings, the latter of whom reportedly spoke with the Canucks’ front office about a potential deal back in January. In a recent article for Heavy.com, Michael DeRosa suggested a trade that would see veteran forward Evander Kane dealt to the Dallas Stars, with 50 percent of his salary retained, in exchange for a third round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, an asset that the Vancouver Canucks are really hoping to get for the 34-year-old winger.
“When looking at their top nine, it is clear that it could use a boost, and bringing in Kane could give them that. This is because the veteran forward is capable of providing solid secondary scoring and plenty of grit when playing at his best. He would also give the Stars another option to work with on their power play.” DeRosa said about Kane’s fit with the Dallas Stars.
The Dallas Stars are hoping to get over the hump and back into the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2026 and in order to do so, they’re going to need some more grit and depth, with is exactly what Evander Kane can provide them with.
We’ll have to wait and see what transpires over the next 12 days, but it’s clear that the Dallas Stars’ interest in Evander Kane hasn’t wavered and they’ll likely remain in the mix right up until the end.
