GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota women’s tennis put on a complete and strong all-around performance on Sunday afternoon en route to a 7-0 sweep of Bemidji State inside Choice Health & Fitness.
The win moves the Fighting Hawk to 4-7 overall the season and 2-1 on home court.
Doubles action cruised by in nearly 30 minutes for the home team, as each UND pair dominated from all three courts. First to take a win was the duo of Emma Roberts and Simone Cameron, who collected a 6-1 victory from the No. 3 spot. Alyssa Giupponi and Andrea Pineda followed suit from the middle position with their fierce 6-0 win before Ethel Li and Alva Norberg clinched the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at the No. 1 court.
That momentum carried into one-on-one competition, starting with Cameron’s performance at the No. 6 court. She battled out a 6-3, 6-0 to push UND ahead to 2-0 before Li added in a 6-1, 6-2 win from the top spot to extend the lead.
Roberts clinched the team victory from the No. 5 position with her 6-1, 6-2 showing and was soon joined in victory by Giupponi after her 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot. Norberg collected identical sets of 6-2, 6-2 to turn all eyes to the second court. In her first singles match of the season after injury, Pineda worked her way to a 6-4, 6-2 win to secure the 7-0 team sweep of the Beavers.
