The photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor taken after he was released from police custody was hung at the Louvre by activists who described the picture as “iconic”.

Everyone Hates Elon, a protest group, shared a video on Sunday of its members mounting the picture of Andrew slumped in the back of a Range Rover after leaving Aylsham police station in Norfolk.

The group said: “We thought we’d show the former Prince Andrew how the world will remember him by putting up this iconic arrest photo at the Louvre.”

The framed picture, which carried the title He’s Sweating Now, was removed from by staff at the Paris museum after 15 minutes.

The picture made front pages around the world

Andrew was arrested on Thursday last week, his 66th birthday, on suspicion of misconduct in public office after the Epstein files — a cache of documents including emails sent to and from the paedophile financier — were published by the US Department of Justice. Andrew, who was released after 11 hours in custody, denies any wrongdoing.

Everyone Hates Elon has described its mission as “pissing off billionaires one small action at a time”. It has previously put up posters in east London of Elon Musk.
