The Ontario fire marshal is set to investigate after a house fire near King St. East and Townline Rd. in Courtice has left one person unaccounted for.
Durham Regional Police say one person is dead after a house fire in Courtice late Sunday night.
It happened near Nash and Varcoe roads at around 10:30 p.m.
Police said initially said crews were unable to get inside the home and one person was believed to be inside. In an update on Monday morning, police confirmed that one person was found deceased inside the residence.
The fire is out but the scene is still active, police noted.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause, origin, and circumstances surrounding the fire.
