CIBC made a $100,000 contribution to the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation at the charity’s annual fundraising gala on Saturday night.

Brent Agerbak, the bank’s regional vice-president, said CIBC hoped the investment – targeted at northern cancer care – “helps strengthen access to care and support for individuals and families across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.”

“Supporting cancer services closer to home is not just about healthcare, it’s about keeping people connected to their families, their communities and their traditions during moments that matter most,” Agerbak said.

CIBC presented a cheque for the sum to foundation leaders during the Fire & Ice Gala, this year’s version of the foundation’s annual February fundraiser, at Yellowknife’s Explorer Hotel.

Proceeds from the gala go toward patient care, medical equipment and capital projects at the city’s Stanton Territorial Hospital, which serves the NWT and parts of Nunavut.

On the gala’s online auction page, the estimated sum raised through donations, a silent auction and other efforts on the night stood at about $215,000 as of late Saturday.

Next year, the foundation will celebrate 30 years since its founding in 1997. CIBC has been the title sponsor for its Run for Our Lives fundraising events since 2004.
