UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber doesn’t share the same view that Sean Strickland does as far as the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano bout is concerned.

Strickland recently told Newsweek Sports that that he has no interest in the fight and said he thinks Rousey will “steamroll” Carano. The former UFC Middleweight Champion also shared his belief that Carano simply got attention because she was “hot” during a period when women’s MMA was “sucked.”‘

Bloody Elbow got a chance to speak to Faber, who shared a different take from Strickland dismissive comments.

“I don’t agree with Sean Strickland, who’s not excited about that match,” Faber said. “First of all, Gina Carano didn’t suck. She’s a bad chick. Her dad is a friend of mine. He was a professional football player for a lot of years, and an amazing athlete himself. And she was a knockout artist; she was tough.

“I think her and Rousey is going to be a great match. I’m excited for it. I do wish it was on a UFC card. Hopefully, they are going to get compensated. The UFC, we are not worried about the UFC. They are in a good place.”

Carano was once the most talked about name in women’s MMA, but when she stepped away from the sport, Rousey emerged. “Rowdy” became a pioneer for women’s MMA, and she competed in UFC’s first female bout in 2013. Rousey submitted Liz Carmouche in the historic fight.

Rousey vs. Carano is scheduled to take place on May 16. It’ll be the first live MMA event to air on the Netflix streaming service. The bout is being promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.
