The Vancouver Canucks have received some encouraging news on the market for veteran defenseman Tyler Myers, as trade rumors begin to heat up around the league.

With the trade deadline right around the corner, the Vancouver Canucks are continuing to go through their options to determine which moves they could make, keeping in mind that they want to get younger amid their plans to rebuild.

As we’ve known for quite some time now, Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford’s priority is to part ways with all of their pending unrestricted free agents, but are also open to offers on other players too, including veteran defenseman Tyler Myers, who has one year remaining on his contract beyond the 2025-26 campaign.

“We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we’re not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts.” Jim Rutherford said in January.

While it’s far from a guarantee, the Vancouver Canucks could have plenty of interest in defenseman Tyler Myers if they were to make him available leading up to the deadline on March 6th.

Right-shot defensemen, even depth pieces like Tyler Myers, are in high-demand year round and over the next week and a half, it looks like a number of teams are trying to acquire them for their push for a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

In a recent article for The Ottawa Citizen, insider Bruce Garrioch revealed that the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Utah Mammoth are all looking to add a right-shot defenseman before the deadline.

“The Red Wings, Bruins, Sabres, Sharks, Stars and Mammoth are all in the market for a right-shot blueliner.” Garrioch said last week.

Trading Tyler Myers won’t be easy, not because there won’t be interest in him, but because he has a full no-movement clause for the rest of this season, so he controls his future and would love to finish his career with the Vancouver Canucks, according to his agent JP Barry.

“It’s a pretty similar situation. If the team’s going to come to you and say, ‘Look, we have something, and we want to discuss it,’ we have to discuss it. But he has a no-move [clause]. He secured it for the kind of deal, and the intention was to play in Vancouver. He’s a veteran guy who wanted to finish his career in Vancouver. So that’s even a more delicate discussion. Like I said, it’s all hypothetical, and I have a hard time dancing around all these hypotheticals that, until we have the actual team and the GM of Vancouver wanting to discuss it, it’s just hypothetical.” Barry said about Tyler Myers and his future with the Vancouver Canucks.

If a contender were to come calling and willing to give Tyler Myers a role on their blue line for the stretch run and the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks would probably approach him and his agent about the opportunity, especially if it includes a nice return for the club.
