Oilers trade rumours: Mangiapane expected to be moved by deadline, team checks in on Ristolainen

The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta reported that Oilers forward Andrew Mangiapane is expected to be traded to another team.
“As the Oilers navigate the trade waters, I’m told they remain in talks with a few teams regarding Andrew Mangiapane,” Pagnotta posted on X.

On Pagnotta’s website, an article highlighted that Oilers general manager Stan Bowman is working with Mangiapane’s agent, Allain Roy, on finding him a new home.
Mangiapane’s name has been in the rumour mill since late December, but the Oilers have yet to find a suitor for the 29-year-old who signed a two-year, $3.6 million AAV deal with the team this past summer. His first season in Edmonton has been nothing short of a disappointment, scoring just six goals and 12 points in 49 games, while finding himself healthy scratched in nine games between Christmas and the Olympic break. Mangiapane has some control in where he heads thanks to a no-movement clause.
One team who could be a theoretical fit are the Philadelphia Flyers, Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco wrote Monday.The Oilers, according to Di Marco, are among half a dozen teams who have shown interest in Flyers defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen. While the Oilers have checked in, he reported, they aren’t beleived to be a “serious” suitor.One issue in a potential deal for Ristolainen is the Oilers salary cap position, which sees the team project for roughly $1.1 million in deadline cap space. Ristolainen has another year left on his deal paying him $5.1 million, so some gymnastics would certainly need to happen before any deal was consumated. Edmonton being linked to Ristolainen isn’t anything new. In fact, in January 2025, Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin connected the two as a potential fit.
Ristolainen has appeared in 19 games this season scoring one goal and six points, and had three assists and seven shots on goal in six games representing Finland at the Olympics.
Time will tell what could come of either potential moves for the Oilers, but it’s clear that Bowman will be active in looking to improve the roster.
