Vice VGW02 Wedge Review: Can German Engineering Take on the Big Dogs?
Since the VGW02 are new this year, here are my initial impressions of them to start this off:
Design & First Impressions
The new Vice VGW02 Wedge makes a statement before you ever hit a shot.

At the address, it’s a true black widow — sleek, compact, and deadly

But flip it over, and the personality really comes out.
The back of the VGW02 is arguably its most striking visual feature. The design leans futuristic — almost sci-fi inspired — yet somehow still feels classic. The sculpted cavity, bold shaping, and refined lines give it a premium presence that easily holds its own next to the biggest names in the wedge game.
Groove & Milling Details
The detailing continues when you get up close.
The grooves are large and aggressive, paired with subtle secondary milling that signals serious intent.

The etched design theme carries onto the sole, highlighted by a subtle “V” integrated into the striations. It’s a small aesthetic touch, but it reinforces the brand identity without feeling overdone.

This isn’t a generic wedge with a logo stamped on it — the VGW02 has a distinct design language.
Grind & Versatility
The grind is a relieved full grind, offering versatility across multiple shot types.
Full swings feel stable and controlled.
Three-quarter shots are predictable and repeatable.
Open-face shots sit naturally without the leading edge lifting excessively.
Visually, the sole relief appears positioned to keep the leading edge playable when opened up, while maintaining enough bounce to prevent digging on square-faced strikes. More real-turf testing is needed, but early signs suggest a wedge designed with shot variety in mind.Spin Performance (TrackMan IO Data)
For the numbers crowd — here’s where things get interesting.
Right out of the box, in their maiden runs, these wedges can spin.
As someone who typically struggles to generate consistent wedge spin above 7,500 RPM, I was able to produce the spin I needed with both the 54° and 58° models without hesitation. Peak spin measured on TrackMan IO reached 8,300 RPM.
Now, one session doesn’t make a verdict. A larger sample size across different shot types will ultimately determine long-term performance. But early data suggests that the VGW02 is more than capable of generating spin and stopping power.
So what is life without a challenge, and what is the point of looking this good if you are not going to make a statement, so let’s see if these Wedges can make that statement!!!
The Big Question: Can It Hang with the Vokey?
No wedge review is complete without addressing the benchmark.
The plan? A head-to-head showdown between the VGW02 and my 54° and 58° SM10 wedges— the old guard in the category.
At roughly $130, the VGW02 comes in significantly below the premium tier pricing. The question isn’t whether it looks good — it absolutely does. The question is whether it can perform consistently enough to stand in the ring with the biggest name in the wedge game. Looking good and at a better price point.
So Ding Ding -Consider this the opening bell, because The VGW02 doesn’t look or feel like a “budget alternative.” It feels like a legitimate contender gunning for that title belt.
