A wanted man accused of walking away from police custody three weeks ago in Toronto could be hanging out in an area near Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga, authorities say.

Jahmal Sylvester, 28, of no fixed address, is being sought for being unlawfully at large after leaving police custody on Feb. 2, Toronto Police said.

Police are seeking the public’s help in tracking the man down.

Sylvester was released from the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, located in the Finch Avenue West and Highway 400 area, on the early February day “despite being subject to a General Warrant of Committal requiring him to stay in custody to serve a jail sentence,” police said in a news release late Monday.

“The accused left the courthouse and failed to return to custody to serve his sentence as required.”

Sylvester is described as 6-f00t, 200 pounds and police say he’s known to frequent the Rexdale area of Toronto, located right on the border with the airport and the Malton area of Mississauga.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 416-808-2200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
