BRAMPTON, ON. – The Peterborough Petes picked up a 4-1 win over the Brampton Steelheads on Friday night at the CAA Centre.
Kieron Walton opened the scoring on the power play for the Petes in the second period with a powerful slapshot from the dot off a feed from the point from Adam Novotný. At 7:24 of the third period, Kieran Witkowski tied the game for the Steelheads. Off a brilliant move from Matej Stankoven to get past the Petes defense, his feed in front of the net found Witkowski, who went forehand then backhand to slide it past Easton Rye. Six minutes later, Matthew Soto gave the Petes the go-ahead goal, as his quick snapshot from the left side went over the glove of Luke Johnson. With the Steelheads pulling their goalie in the final minutes, Novotný and Aiden Young sealed the game for the Petes, adding two empty net goals. Rye also picked up his league-leading 31st win.
