LETTER: Why Surrey’s police transition isn’t working out as planned

In the beginning when the Surrey Police Service was envisioned, it was thought that several hundred Mounties would merely patch over to the SPS, hence recruiting additional personnel would be relatively easy.

Instead the government, without a referendum, decreed the conversion would go ahead. At least had the public had a say in this big and expensive decision, we might not be in this morass that the city finds itself in now. Every city is now looking to recruit personnel which they are finding is not easy given the present situation.

That’s just that’s my take on things.
