Eighty-eight new officers will be sworn in by Peel Regional Police today (Feb. 25), a record high for the department.

A ceremony in Mississauga will mark the historic milestone, with the new recruits reporting for duty soon.

“The 88 new officers will take their oath, bringing diverse backgrounds, specialized skills, and unique lived experiences that will strengthen frontline policing and enhance service to our communities,” according to a statement issued by the department.

The new officers, for the most part, will join frontline duties to increase police presence, respond to public emergencies, and confront crime on the streets of Mississauga and Brampton.

In addition to the new officers, 25 civilian professionals will also be hired this year.

The ranks of Peel Regional Police are continuing to significantly grow. In 2025, 300 officers were approved for hire, and the recently approved operational budget for 2026 will add another 175 uniformed personnel by the end of the year.

As part of a three-year plan, the department hopes to increase its ranks by 600 by 2027, which would bring the staffing levels to approximately 4,000 officers, making Peel Regional Police one of the largest police services in the country.
