They are up there orbiting the earth, but we don’t usually have a chance to see them.

That will change tonight (Feb. 24) and tomorrow when optimal conditions are in place to view the Starlink satellites traversing the skies of Mississauga.

Starlink satellites are a train of close-knit lights that glide across the sky in a straight, orderly manner. They are often mistaken for UFOs because of their appearance, especially by those who catch a glimpse by chance.

According to findstarlink.com, a website dedicated to tracking the satellites, bright conditions for Starlink will occur tonight, starting at 7:26 p.m. and lasting just four minutes.

To catch a view, you need to be able to search the sky without any obstructions and without the glare of city lights. The flight path is expected to be west to southwest.

If you miss out tonight, you can try again tomorrow, starting at 7:21 p.m. and lasting four minutes, travelling west to south.

A more detailed account of where exactly they can be found on the horizon can be found by following this link.

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX that provides high-speed, low-latency broadband to over 150 countries. It uses thousands of small, flat-panel satellites in low Earth orbit — roughly 550 km high — to deliver internet, primarily targeting remote and underserved locations. As of early 2026, the network includes over 9,000 satellites.

Tonight’s and tomorrow’s viewings are considered important for skygazers as the lights are not as bright as when they were first deployed in 2019. The lights have been dimmed in recent years to avoid interfering with astronomical observations.

The satellites are expected to cross our path several times this week, but other than the ones mentioned, the viewing conditions won’t be as good.
