Over the last few seasons, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have built and maintained one of the top defensive secondaries in the CFL. However, the Tiger-Cats’ success on defense is not stopping them from making moves to add quality and depth to their secondary. Two positions where the Tiger-Cats have been working to increase talent and depth are at their boundary and field half-back positions, with the signing of Gregory Junior as a boundary half-back and the re-signing of Destin Talbert as their field-side half-back.
Despite those acquisitions, the Tiger-Cats are continuing to add to their defensive secondary, including both defensive half-back positions. The next potential playmaker to join the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive secondary is former NFL defensive back Josiah Scott. Hamilton announced their decision to sign Scott with a tweet and a press release.
The 5’9″, 185-pound defensive back Josiah Scott comes to Hamilton after spending four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL. In 2020, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Josiah Scott with the 4th pick in the NFL draft. During the 2020 season, Scott played in 6 games for the Jaguars, and he recorded 10 solo tackles and 1 assist. However, in 2021, Scott moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent three seasons (2021-2023), playing in 33 games, recording 28 solo tackles, 12 assists, 2 interceptions, and 1 quarterback sack.
Before starting his NFL career, Scott played college football at Michigan State University from 2017 to 2019. While playing for the Spartans, Scott recorded 66 solo tackles and 32 assists. In addition, Scott intercepted 7 passes for the Spartans.
While Scott has significant experience at the NFL level, he has not played professional football since 2023. Scott has built a reputation for a strong work ethic and as a solid slot corner/nickel. However, Scott is not known as a physically imposing player, but he does a nice job as a force on the perimeter. If Scott can come into camp and demonstrate the playmaking ability that led to Scott being drafted, then he can jump-start his career in professional football in the CFL.
