Lacombe leaders made their voices heard at the nation’s capital yesterday, advocating for the future of the Lacombe Research and Development Centre.

Mayor Thalia Hibbs and County Reeve John Ireland appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food to speak directly to federal decision-makers about the critical importance of the Centre, calling it a pillar of innovation, food security and agricultural strength across Canada.

During their testimony, Hibbs and Ireland emphasized the significant impact a proposed closure would have on local families, agricultural producers and Canada’s long-term research capacity.

They argued the Centre’s independent research and decades of contributions to the livestock and crop sectors are irreplaceable — and that now is a time for increased investment in agricultural research, not reductions.
