The popular radio host says while it’s not easy to step away from her morning show, the timing is right
Popular radio host Marilyn Denis is leaving the CHUM 104.5 FM morning show.
News of Denis’ departure was announced on Thursday morning, nearly 40 years after she began working as a host on the station’s morning show.
In her on-air announcement today, Denis said “it’s been a privilege” to work at the radio station for close to four decades.
“As I make the decision to step away from the station I love, I look back with pride and gratitude, knowing I had the honour of saying, ‘I worked at CHUM,’” she said. “And now, the real adventure is ahead – and I’m looking forward to all of it.”
Still, Denis admitted “it’s not easy to walk away” from the radio show, but said the timing is right.
“Leading up to her final morning show broadcast, CHUM 104.5 is set to celebrate Denis’s career and legacy with some surprises that are sure to delight fans and provide can’t miss moments,” Bell Media, which owns CHUM 104.5, said in a statement.
“Marilyn’s historic career has spanned radio and television, and she has connected with listeners and viewers across the country through her candid approach, sense of humour, and ability to lead unforgettable conversations and interviews,” Bell Media executive Dave Daigle said.
“While we will all miss having Marilyn wake us up every morning, we are incredibly proud to have been her home for the last 40 years,” he continued. “Marilyn’s legacy will live on through everyone who has had the privilege of working with her, and all those she’s inspired.”
Denis’ last CHUM 104.5 broadcast will take place this summer, though the exact date has yet to be announced.
She first joined CHUM 104.5 in 1986 after she auditioned to become Roger Ashby’s radio co-host.
The media personality earlier ended her CTV program The Marilyn Denis Show in 2023 after 13 seasons.
Denis’ CHUM 104.5 morning radio show is live on the air weekdays starting at 5 a.m.
