Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham is having a busy WNBA offseason. The seven-year veteran is rehabbing from a torn MCL she suffered last year. Her season was cut short during Indiana’s game against the Connecticut Sun. Guard Bria Hartley went into the paint and stumbled on Cunningham’s leg, causing her to tear her the MCL in her right knee.
The 6-foot-1 guard had a good season for the Fever last year. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Cunningham also shot 46.9% from the field and 43.2% from three, both career highs. She only played 30 games, but was still a big part of Indiana’s WNBA season. The former Missouri Tigers star was a major part of the Fever’s WNBA Commissioner’s Cup title, providing intensity to the squad.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham gets ready for the new WNBA season
Despite her injury, Cunningham still provided energy from the bench during the Fever’s playoff run. Unfortunately, Indiana couldn’t defeat the Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals. In the offseason, Cunningham made sure to get back in top shape following her season-ending injury.
The former 2019 13th overall pick shared that she lost 16.5 lbs this offseason. She was previously listed at 165 lbs, but she is now down to 148.5 lbs. As Indiana’s enforcer, fans might think that she will lose her physicality because of this. This is why Cunningham shared that she “need(s) to gain 5 lbs.” before the season starts.
In an Instagram story, Cunningham shared a photo of her legs beside the pool as she enjoys the offseason. She also needs to take time to relax during the break, as she continues working hard to get in shape.
But, of course, the sharpshooter still needs to get her reps in. In the following Instagram story, she shared another photo of her legs. This time, Cunningham is in her sneakers and on the basketball court.

As she is gearing up for her eighth WNBA season, Fever fans are excited to have their enforcer back on the court. Cunningham is not one to walk away from physicality, as evidenced by her claim that women’s basketball is as tough as the men’s. This is why she is a valuable asset to Indiana and a major piece in their quest to win it all.
