Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are both set to lace up their boxing gloves once again for a ring return this September. The two legendary fighters have confirmed they will emerge from retirement to reignite their rivalry in a rematch planned for September 19 in Las Vegas.

However, boxing enthusiasts will now have the chance to witness the duo square off once again. It represents the 49-year-old Mayweather’s first professional contest since hanging up his gloves in August 2017 following his triumph over Conor McGregor. The American’s triumph over Pacquiao had taken his record to 48 victories, which subsequently reached 50-0.

He has since competed against the likes of Logan Paul, Aaron Chalmers and John Gotti III in a string of exhibition matches, most recently facing the latter in August 2024. Pacquiao, 47, stepped away from boxing to pursue his political ambitions in 2021, before making his comeback last July to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, a bout that ended in a draw with Barrios retaining his belt.

The Filipino holds a professional record of 62-8-3 and has fought eight times since his loss to Mayweather. Financial necessity, however, appears to be the last concern for either fighter, given their considerable fortunes. As of February 2026, Celebrity Net Worth places the flamboyant Mayweather’s net worth at £74m ($100m), despite his total career earnings exceeding £888m ($1.2bn).

Mayweather’s 2015 clash with Pacquiao remains the highest-grossing fight in boxing history, generating over £444m ($600m). Just two years later, he emerged from retirement to take on UFC legend McGregor in a crossover boxing spectacle that earned him yet another nine-figure sum.

Yet, despite his reputation as one of boxing’s wealthiest figures, the American’s net worth is actually less than half of Pacquiao’s reported fortune. The Filipino, who has also carved out careers as an actor, singer, endorser and politician, is reportedly worth £163m ($220m). Born into poverty in the Philippines, he turned professional at just 16 years of age in order to help provide for his family.

The ‘PacMan’ made his move into politics in 2010, serving as both a congressman and later a senator in his native country, all whilst continuing his boxing career. Over the course of his professional life, Pacquiao has accumulated at least £370m ($500m) through bouts and various commercial deals.

His bout with Mayweather remains the most significant and financially rewarding of his career. Pacquiao reportedly pocketed £96m ($130m), whilst his rival took home approximately £185m ($250m). This made him the second-highest paid sportsman in the world in 2015, trailing only Mayweather. Pacquiao has also carved out a successful career in entertainment, featuring in numerous Filipino productions.

Mayweather, meanwhile, stands among a rare group of athletes to have amassed over $1bn throughout his entire career. He has previously struck a deal with luxury watchmaker Hublot and has lent his name to Burger King. Mayweather is equally recognised for his association with Cagau jewellery and his promotion of his own boxing outfit, TMT Promotions.
