With the college football season complete, the 2026 NFL scouting combine is one of the last major chances draft prospects have to make an impact on NFL teams.
Throughout the week, prospects took part in interviews and on-field drills, all with the goal of convincing an NFL team they are worth a draft pick. While some players headed into the event knowing they’ll get drafted no matter how they perform, a few players will see their status rise dramatically after delivering standout physical displays.

The on-field action concludes Sunday with the offensive linemen. Among the players in the running for first-round draft status are Miami’s Francis Mauigoa, Utah’s Spencer Fano and Georgia’s Monroe Freeling.
The main event of the combine was Saturday with quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs taking the field for workouts. Arkansas QB Taylen Green was a big workout winner with record efforts in the vertical jump and broad jumps, and a blistering 4.36-second run in the 40-yard dash. Mississippi State wide receiver Brenen Thompson put up the fastest time of any player at the combine in the 40 with a 4.26 run. And Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love continued his push to be a top-10 draft pick with strong showings all around.
Thursday’s workouts featured some head-turning performances, led by Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles’ incredible all-around performance and a time of 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash, best among linebackers. On Friday, older brother and safety prospect Lorenzo Styles Jr. ran a blazing 4.27 for the best time in the combine so far. And two tight ends made history as Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq ran a 4.39 in the 40, which is a new combine record at his position. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt TE Eli Stowers broke combine records in both the vertical jump (45.5 inches) and broad jump (11 feet, 3 inches).

Coming into the NFL’s scouting combine, the quarterback spot was best summed up as Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and then a lot of guys in need of development. After Saturday’s QB throwing session — which Mendoza skipped — that analysis held firm … but with some added intrigue.
The arm of Drew Allar? Didn’t disappoint, particularly on deep throws. The accuracy and mechanical efficiency of Ty Simpson? Evident. The athleticism of’ Taylen Green? Beyond absurd. The overall thumbnail of the entire quarterback class? Probably unchanged in terms of potential to start in the NFL quickly.
That was the biggest takeaway from Saturday’s throwing sessions, which were suggestive of what we’ve been hearing from talent evaluators for a while: You can find some tools or traits to like, but when you get beyond Mendoza, the 2026 NFL Draft is filled with a litany of backup quarterbacks and a precious few who might develop into starters.
