Trump warns Fallon and Kimmel are ‘going to be gone’ after Colbert cancellation
Donald Trump not only opened up about his true thoughts about Stephen Colbert, he also gave his take on his other colleagues.
During a press briefing at the White House on Wednesday, Aug. 6, the U.S. president took a dig at the recently canceled late-night host, saying, “Colbert has no talent.” He followed his comment with an equally negative comment about Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. The president said, “Fallon has no talent, Kimmel has no talent. They’re next, I hear, they’re going to be gone.”
Trump’s statement comes less than 24 hours after several outlets reported that The Howard Stern Show was getting cancelled. For talk show fans, the timing of this news was very alarming, considering CBS recently announced it would be canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, too.

Last month, the network released a statement that read, “‘THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT’ will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season.
Donald Trump says Stephen Colbert has “no talent”
“We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire the ‘THE LATE SHOW’ franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late-night television.”
Rumors speculate the reason for the axe has to do with a comment Stephen made about President Trump just three days before the news was announced.
Taking down Paramount with the president, the host openly criticized the company for their $16 million settlement on a lawsuit the president filed over the way a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris was edited in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
Commenting on the issue, Colbert said, “I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles: it’s ‘big, fat bribe.’”
After the cancellation was announced, Fallon and Kimmel both rushed to their colleagues’ defense.
Donald Trump says The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is “going to be gone”
During The Tonight Show, Fallon used his opening monologue to weigh in on the matter. He stated, “Stephen has done years of incredibly smart and hilarious television, and he’s won 10 Emmys. Trump heard and was like, ‘Big deal, last week I just won a FIFA World Cup trophy.’”
The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! took to social media with an expletive-ridden response. He wrote, “Love you Stephen. F*** you and all your Sheldons CBS.”
To show his undenying support towards Colbert, Kimmel took it a step further and rented out a billboard in Los Angeles that reads, “I’m voting for Stephen,” referencing both of their nominations for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series.
Stephen has been nominated within the category for the past nine consecutive years. However, he was never able to take home the award, which makes this year the last time he will be able to do so before his show’s final episode next May.
