To safely assess and repair structure, Springwater Township says it will need to be drained and taken out of service; municipal drinking water remains safe

NEWS RELEASE

TOWNSHIP OF SPRINGWATER

*************************

The Township of Springwater is currently responding to an issue with the Hillsdale water tower, where a leak has been identified at the base of the structure.

To safely assess and repair the water tower, the structure will need to be drained and taken out of service.

Crews have been mobilized to complete an onsite investigation and determine the scope of repairs required. The Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) has activated a portable water supply unit to ensure that residents continue to receive water service during this time. As a result, the water supply has been disrupted.

Water is currently being supplemented via the emergency back-up tank.

Currently, there is no confirmed timeline for repairs. A more accurate timeline will be provided once the investigation has been completed and the full extent of the issue is known.

The township would like to reassure residents that municipal drinking water remains safe.

Residents in Hillsdale can continue to drink tap water, bathe, shower, cook, and carry out normal daily water use. There is no boil-water advisory in effect and there is no risk to the safety of the township’s drinking water.

During this time, the township is asking all impacted residents to reduce all non-essential water usage as much as possible to support system stability.

Residents are encouraged to postpone laundry and dishwashing, take shorter showers, limit outdoor water use, and flush toilets only when necessary.

The township has developed a detailed list of frequently asked questions (FAQ), including information about water use, and a map of the affected service area, which can be viewed on our website.

While the Hillsdale water tower is offline, fire suppression and emergency response coverage remain in place. Springwater Fire and Emergency Services have implemented contingency measures, including the use of tanker trucks, and mutual aid partners have been contacted to support emergency response if required.

The township will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Additional notices may be hand delivered to directly impacted residents if required.

The Township of Springwater thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as crews work to investigate and repair the Hillsdale water tower.
