Well-played, Young & Restless. All that talk about Sally’s never-seen father in Monday’s episode (recapped here) left us all but dying to meet her father, whom she described as a drunk carny who was forever chasing luck and as likely to catch it as Wile E. Coyote is the Road Runner. And, if reformed a la Danny’s dad Rex, the deadbeat could prove to be just the breath of fresh air that the show needs.
He’d Be a One-of-a-Kind Character On This Show
Think about it: There are literally no have-nots in Genoa City. You could say that maybe Tessa isn’t rich, but she’s rich-adjacent, which is pretty much the same thing. If she ever needed a mansion, mother-in-law Sharon could buy her one with loose change so that she and Aria had a nice roof over their heads.

So Sally’s father could speak for all of us in the audience who have been saying for years now, “Y’all are so wealthy, even your money has money. Why aren’t you enjoying it, like, at all?” He could take a job brewing coffee at Crimson Lights in hopes of convincing his daughter to give him another chance and get to know the new and improved him.

Romance Awaits
Sally might want to keep Dad at arm’s length, but he could get a much warmer welcome from, say, Phyllis, who desperately needs someone to slow her roll and remind her that there are things in life that are more important than revenge and rolling in dough.
More: Roger Howarth’s on-set hero
And there’s a plethora of vets out there who would be amazing as Sally’s dad: William deVry (ex-Julian, General Hospital), John Wesley Shipp (Kelly, Guiding Light), Michael Park (Jack, As the World Turns), Shawn Christian (ex-Daniel, Days of Our Lives). The list goes on and on.
The Star Is All for It
Courtney Hope previously told Soaps.com “I am hoping” to meet Mom and Dad. “That is my biggest wish for Sally. I want to explore her parents and her history and where she came from with every fiber of my being. That just adds more to Sally’s story,
“But it’s also the most interesting, out-there story of them being carnies and addicts and all the above,” she said. “So colorful! And there’s so much to pull from!”
