Calgary is about to host the world’s most popular musical, and if you want in, you’re already cutting it close.

Only handfuls of tickets remain for Les Misérables at the Jubilee Auditorium from March 4-8.

. More than 130 million people have seen Les Misérables, or Les Mis, in 438 cities and 22 languages.

The show, which is based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name, follows the life of Jean Valjean after being freshly released from prison after serving 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread.

He rescues and raises an orphan as an armed uprising is on the horizon in Paris. The show addresses the struggles of poverty, love, injustice and redemption.

This is Cameron Mackintosh’s touring production of the Boublil and Schönberg musical, which premiered in 1985. An update for Les Mis was made in 2009 for the show’s 25th anniversary, and includes new visuals inspired by Hugo’s Artwork.

Along with being called the “Les Mis for the 21st Century,” the West End version is the longest-running musical in the theatre and the second-longest-running show overall, and the Broadway version is the sixth-longest-running show of its kind.

The show runs two hours and 55 minutes, including intermission.
