Police and paramedics attended an altercation at the Northern Community Centre last night

An incident at the Northern Community Centre last night led to a visit from the police.

During a youth soccer game, an altercation led to police and paramedics attending the scene.

Three people were transported to hospital after sustaining “minor physical injuries,” said Lincoln Louttit, manager of corporate communications with the Sault Police Service.

While some residents used social media to describe what they saw, neither the city or police shared specifics about the incident with SooToday.

“The matter is currently under review, and the city is fully cooperating with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in their investigation,” said Nicole Maione, director of community services.

“The city remains committed to ensuring that our recreational facilities are safe, welcoming environments for all users.”

Police say no charges have been laid at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

This incident occurred roughly a month after a hockey referee in the Sault said a parent told him to kill himself during a game.

SooToday also spoke with other referees who described their experiences.
