Was there ever a real chance that Johannes Høsflot Klæbo would trade his skis for a racing bike? After an amaaaaazing Olympic Winter Games in Italy, where he stormed to six gold medals and became the undisputed star of the Olympics, speculation flared up once again. What could possibly be next for a man who has already done it all, in his sport, basically?
Cycling fans started wondering, including moi. Here’s a guy with the crazy acceleration of Mathieu van der Poel, the lungs of Tadej Pogačar and the top-end speed of Jonathan Milan. Klæbo’s uphill charge that went viral seemed to blend all three traits into one crazy, short effort.

A social media post last summer didn’t help either. Klæbo appeared as a guest with Uno-X during the Tour de France and posted a cryptic Instagram video. “First I have to do the Olympics, then we’ll see,” he said. “After that I’ll really start thinking about what I want to do. Maybe signing with Uno-X could be the next goal.”
He’s in the team kit–but that’s also because he has a sponsorship deal with the fuel station. He was never officially on the squad, nor has he even ridden a race.
Still, that was enough to ignite the rumour mill. (Including the minions at Canadian Cycling Magazine, it seems…)
But according to Sporza, those whispers can be put to rest. Gino Van Oudenhove, a DS at Uno-X, said:
“Social media is social media. If something like that happens, we’ll jump on it. But it is absolutely not the intention that he’s going to race.”
The fact that Klæbo has been sponsored by Uno-X for years–the brand, not the team, didn’t help. And he’s even trained with the team on several occasions, which only fuelled the speculation. Yet behind the scenes, there appears to be no concrete plan for a transition to professional cycling. It was all just a bunch of social media “fun.”

For example, just before Opening Weekend, Vegar Kulset of Uno-X certainly added some fuel to the fire by posting (apparently older) photos of the Olympian riding notable climbs like Oude Kwaremont or the Paterberg.
But that was all just…well, much ado about ingen ting.
In fact, Klæbo himself has already outlined his next big objective: the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps.
That pretty much confirms he ain’t stopping cross-country skiing anytime soon.
So for now, Klaebo stays on skis, not wheels. And in Norway, a country Van Oudenhove calls “an ideal place to grow up” for endurance athletes, that hardly comes as a surprise.
