Three-time WNBA champion Diana Taurasi will be inducted into the Phoenix Mercury Ring of Honor on Aug. 16.

Taurasi announced her retirement from basketball prior to the 2025 season and will see her name up in the rafters of Mortgage Matchup Center when her former team takes on new franchise Portland Fire.

Tickets are now on sale for the Sunday afternoon game on the Mercury’s website.

Last year we announced she would go into the rafters. Today we announce the date.

The WNBA’s all-time leading scorer (10,646 points) and only basketball player in Olympics history to win six gold medals (2004, ’08, 2012, ’16, 2020, ’24) will join five others in the illustrious ring of honor: Cheryl Miller (first Mercury coach), Jennifer Gillom, Bridget Pettis, Penny Taylor and Michele Timms.

Additionally, Taurasi’s No. 3 on her jersey will formally be retired during the pregame ceremony.

Taurasi was the league MVP in 2009, a 14-time All-WNBA player and made four WNBA Finals appearances (2007, ’09, 2014, 2021) in her 20 seasons with Phoenix.

The Phoenix Suns, who share the same arena as the Mercury, offered congratulations to Taurasi on X with an accompanying photo of Taurasi with Suns star Devin Booker.

Congrats, DT 👏

Mercury and Suns owner Mat Ishbia said the two-time WNBA Finals MVP and 2004 No. 1 overall draft pick had a career “that was uniquely hers.”

“For two decades, Diana set the standard for what it means to win, compete and lead at the highest level, doing it in a way that was uniquely hers,” Ishbia said in a press release. “We look forward to celebrating her legendary career as we raise her name and number to the rafters.”

She will be inducted alongside multi-sport athlete Michael Bates, Arizona swim coach Frank Busch, skydiving legend Craig Girard, MLB veteran and Sabino High School standout J.J.
