Former Ward 1 councillor and 2025 mayoral candidate Sonya Sharp substantially outraised and outspent all of the other mayoral candidates but ended up losing the race by 384 votes.
In total, the top five mayoral candidates – Jeromy Farkas, Sonya Sharp, Jyoti Gondek, Brian Thiessen, and Jeff Davison – raised $1,733,845.69, according to disclosures filed with Elections Calgary.
According to Elections Calgary, 132 of 154 candidates for mayor, councillor and school board trustee filed disclosure statements. All three of the local political parties also filed their disclosures.
The deadline was March 2, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. If a candidate files a late disclosure, there is a late filing fee of $500. A report to council or the school board is required by the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and will be provided on March 12, 2026.
According to Elections Calgary, individuals listed in the reports are ineligible to be nominated for council or school board for a period of (whichever expires first):
·      8 years following the day on which the report was presented to council or transmitted to the applicable school board, or
·      3 years following the day the individual’s disclosure statement is filed.
Sharp’s net contributions for the 2025 Calgary municipal election were $529,909.55, which was $141,336.31 more than rival – and eventual mayoral winner – Jeromy Farkas. Former mayor Jyoti Gondek had $346,905 in contributions, Brian Thiessen had $322,408.90 and Jeff Davison raised $146,049.
(Editor’s note: The Davison disclosure was the latest one filed (Sept. 29, 2025), up to July 31, but not the final one up to Dec. 31, 2025, according to Elections Calgary.)
Both Sharp and Gondek had prior election surpluses they were able to use in the most recent election. Sharp, Farkas, and Gondek all ran campaign surpluses, while Davison ($83,536) and Thiessen ($28,411.90) ran deficits.
Mayor candidate Grant Prior also filed a disclosure, and he raised $120 and contributed $4,005.75 of his own funds. He spent the entire combined amount.
