Drugs, weapons, and contraband tobacco were seized from a man arrested during a Calgary police enforcement operation at the Rundle CTrain Station in late February, officers said.

It happened on Friday, Feb. 27, at around 7 p.m. when Calgary police and Transit Peace Officers were checking passenger fares from an outbound train.

A man flashed an expired transfer and then provided a false name, leading police to ask him for ID.

Then, the man was arrested for obstruction, with police adding he had 11 outstanding warrants.

Officers also seized several items from the man, including $360 worth of cocaine, small plastic baggies, a collapsible baton, a folding box cutter, a can of bear spray, two cartons of unstamped cigarettes, and $185.

As a result, 32-year-old Dayton Cory Baptiste now faces four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, possession for the purpose of trafficking crack cocaine, possession of the proceeds of crime, defrauding the provincial government under $5,000, possession/transport of unstamped tobacco, and three counts of carrying a concealed weapon.

He was also issued a fare evasion summons.

Meanwhile, police say the enforcement efforts are a collaboration between the Calgary Police Service Community Engagement Response Team (CERT) and Transit Peace Officers.

“We continue to work closely with Calgary Transit Peace Officers to address crime and social disorder,” said police Staff Sgt. Michil Saad.

“Co-ordinated enforcement helps ensure public spaces remain safe and individuals who choose to engage in criminal activity are held accountable.”
