Fire crews are tackling a barn fully engulfed in flames in Scarborough, according to Toronto Fire.
Emergency responders received calls of a fire near Beare Road and Finch Avenue E. around 9:13 a.m., Toronto Fire told CBC News. They said CN Rail has been notified as train tracks are nearby.
While the fire is still active, crews are making progress and “getting on the good side of it,” said Toronto Fire division commander of operations Robert Hewson at the scene.
He said about 100 firefighters are at the scene.
Tankers from Whitby, Ajax, Markham and Pickering were sent to the scene due to a lack of fire hydrants for water supply in the area, said Toronto Fire.
“In this situation we bring in the water. We set up pools and pump out of that,” said Hewson. “It’s just a different plan. It is more work, just different work.”

The barn structure is unoccupied, so there are no reports of animals or people inside, said fire crews. The fire however did spread to nearby vehicles, they said.
Hewson said an investigation will begin into what sparked the flames once the fire is fully extinguished.
Paramedics said there are no patients or injuries at this time. Crews will be at the scene until the fire is cleared.
Toronto’s largest water tanker, known as Tower 1, was deployed to the fire, according to the city’s website of active fires. Toronto Fire said it was later called down.
