Two people have been charged after a protest at Queen’s Park allegedly turned confrontational with police Wednesday afternoon.

In a news release, Toronto police says officers were in the area for a large demonstration at approximately 3 p.m. on March 4.

During the protest, students carried placards and cheered “hands off our education.” Some also chanted “no cuts, no fees” and “free education now,” voicing anger over recent changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).

Police allege one individual vandalized a monument with spray paint.

Meanwhile, some individuals used the F-word to reference Premier Doug Ford in chants.

Officers say while they were attempting to place the person under arrest, several protesters became aggressive toward police and interfered with the arrest.

Investigators also allege a second individual “spat on” an officer during the incident.

As a result, police have arrested 22-yeart-old Rohtansh Saini, of Toronto, who has been charged with mischief (damage to property under $5,000).

In addition, Mason Wallington, 21, of Hay River, Northwest Territories, has also been charged with assault on a peace officer.

Both are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date on April 17.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators.
