Dreams will come true in Waterloo at the CFL’s Invitational Combine this week.

University of Regina Rams linebacker Colin McKellar is one of the more than 140 athletes who will take part. He admits that it is a dream of his to be there, but it’s also become an obsession.

“It’s been tough to think about anything else ever since I heard about it. It’s consumed my life, and my little circle, and it’s been a pretty cool experience so far. I’m looking forward to getting out there and showing the CFL scouts what I can do.”

McKellar has spent the last three seasons with the Rams after Simon Fraser University shuttered its football program after his freshman season. McKellar admits it has been a heck of a journey.

“It has been a pretty crazy journey for me to get to this place, and it would be pretty hard to visualize and picture. It’s something I’ve always dreamed about, but something that seemed very, very difficult to obtain in the past. All the credit to the coaching staff here and the Rams for doing what they do, finding talent and building a really great team.”

Since a tough loss in the Hardy Cup this fall, McKellar has trained to maximize his individual performance at the combine.

“It’s all about being able to analyze yourself and see where your weaknesses are. We have such a great team of coaches, athletic therapists, and trainers. They’re so hands-on with us. They know our stats, our numbers, and where we need to work, and they set us up for success. They give us all the tools we need.”

McKellar knows what success will look like at the combine.

“If I run a 4.6-second 40. If I run fast.”
