There’s a new Middle Eastern dessert and pastry shop getting ready to open its doors in Brampton.

Kunafa’s is a chain of dessert restaurants with locations in Mississauga, Scarborough, Ajax and London, and has posted on its social media that it is bringing its menu of traditional sweets to Brampton.

The gooey and crispy pastry, called kanafeh or kunafa, is made with shredded dough and filled with cheese and drizzled in a sweet, sugary syrup.

Kunafa’s says it uses cheese and dough “only found overseas” in its desserts.

“If you’ve tasted Kunafa from places like Amman, Palestine or even Nablus, you’ll instantly feel at home when you bite into one of our mouth watering pieces of Kunafa,” the chain says on its website.

“In 2015 we decided to visit the Middle East in an attempt to learn everything there was to know about the making truly authentic Middle Eastern Kunafa. Several trips and a whole lot of Kunafa later, we felt ready to bring this dish, in all its glory, to the GTA,” Kunafa’s says.

Their menu includes Bain Narain (an authentic Middle Eastern cheese and kashta cream pastry drizzled in a sweet syrup), the Kunafa Roll, Crispy Kunafa (Palestinian Kishna-style dough with sweet gooey cheese and warm syrup), and Soft Kunafa. Kunafa’s also has specialty drinks, like Turkish coffee.

The new Kunafa’s in Brampton will be the chain’s first official franchise partner, and will open at Unit 2 6101 Mayfield Rd. in Brampton.

No official grand opening date has been released.
