So the Sens didn’t start this road trip on the best note, but at least getting a point keeps the hope alive. Am I naive to think this team has a chance at taking that final wildcard spot? Possibly, but I will keep hoping for a 10-game point streak or a complete Boston Bruins meltdown; both at the same time would be ideal.

The Senators are in no position to take any opponent lightly, but I would like to think that the Calgary Flames are a much more beatable team than the Edmonton Oilers.

The Flames are all but out of playoff contention, while the Sens sit at a worrisome 37.8% chance. While both teams are coming off a loss, the Sens actually played a good game against the Oilers until they let it slip away, for the Flames, well I think they would like to forget that game against the Dallas Stars.

Tonight will be the final game before the deadline. The Flames have already completed one big trade by sending MacKenzie Weegar to the Utah Mammoth and will be without their star player, Jonathan Huberdeau, who was placed in IR last week as he undergoes hip surgery.

There are no clear rumours or direction from the Sens, but enjoy your favourite players tonight because if we know anything about Sens management, they’re big fans of breaking our hearts (please don’t sacrifice Shane Pinto).

Game NotesThe Sens continue to favour the Nick Jensen experiment, and many of us are wondering what exactly they are seeing in him at this point? Tim Stützle has been absolutely dazzling lately but you could see some frustration from him against the Oilers as he did everything but score. I expect a huge game from him tonight.Even though we lost, Linus Ullmark had a fantastic game against the Oilers and without his third period heroics, the Sens would not have gotten the point. We need another strong game from him tonight and hopefully for the rest of the road trip.Brady Tkachuk claims to be “under a microscope”, I think most fans have moved on from him instead of focusing on him. That being said, he is still our “Captain” and when he shows zero emotional control, maturity, and costs us an extra point with a reckless penalty, it’s time to start focusing on whether he truly is the leader that we can win with. If you guessed special team talking points next, you are correct. The power play has slightly improved, but I still think it struggles at crucial moments of the game. The penalty kill, on the other hand, is embarrassingly bad; the Sens remain 30th in the league and haven’t exactly been a very disciplined team to avoid these bad kills. The Blue Jackets and Bruins are playing tonight, no matter what happens in those game the Sens desperately need the two points. But if all the stars align and both teams lose and the Sens win, they find themselves 4 points away from a wildcard position and stepping ahead of the Washington Capitals. Manifest positive thoughts, Sens fans! You can catch the game tonight at 9pm on TSN5/RDS or listen live at TSN 1200.
