The Maple Leafs have traded Bobby McMann to the Kraken

The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of the most notable teams to watch at the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Due to how poorly this season has gone for the Maple Leafs, they were expected to be one of this year’s deadline.

The Maple Leafs had several trade candidates to keep an eye on as we continued to charge toward at the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Among them were Brandon Carlo, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Scott Laughton, and Calle Jarnkrok.

Yet, their biggest trade candidate was forward Bobby McMann, as he was the subject of trade rumors for several weeks. Now, the Maple Leafs have traded him to the Seattle Kraken and landed an underwhelming return for him in the process.

Maple Leafs Trade Bobby McMann to the Kraken

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Maple Leafs have traded McMann to the Kraken in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

McMann was one of the NHL’s top trade candidates, and it felt inevitable that he would get moved. This was especially so when noting that the Maple Leafs scratched him for roster-related reasons leading up to the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Now, he is heading to the Kraken, and he should be a key part of their roster moving forward.

When looking at the Kraken’s lineup, McMann should slot nicely in their top nine and power play, as he provides strong secondary scoring and plenty of grit. With the Kraken looking to get into the playoffs, landing a forward who provides a bit of everything like McMann should benefit them.

McMann is currently in the middle of a strong season, too. In 60 games this season with the Maple Leafs before the trade, the 6-foot-2 forward recorded 19 goals, 13 assists, 32 points, and 135 hits. With numbers like these, he should be a strong pickup for a Kraken club that is in need of more depth offensive production and toughness.

Maple Leafs’ Return for McMann Is Underwhelming

When noting that the Maple Leafs were hoping to land a first-round pick or two second-round picks, it is fair to say that the return they got for McMann was underwhelming. This is especially so when noting that the Vancouver Canucks got two second-round picks from the San Jose Sharks for a comparable player in Kiefer Sherwood earlier this season.

Yet, at the same time, the Maple Leafs needed to get this trade done. They could not have afforded to lose McMann for nothing in free agency. As a result of this, it is better that they got a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick than nothing.

It will now be interesting to see how much of an impact McMann can make for the Kraken from here. On paper, the fit looks incredibly strong on paper.
