An investigation began in March 2025 when police said a victim came forward alleging they invested funds through the suspect in February 2024, who owned Equity Line Service Corporation.
Cops said the victim was promised a return on their investment.
In February 2025, investigators learned five additional victims had also invested funds with the same suspect, who they allege misappropriated the funds for personal gain after more than $2.5 million was invested.
Police charged Sergiy Shchavyelyev on Dec. 9, 2025, with six counts of fraud over $5,000.
A photo of the suspect has been released by police as investigators believe there may be additional victims and encourage them to come forward.

The Caledon detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged three Brampton men after a search warrant was executed at a residence following a drug trafficking investigation.
Officers seized approximately 480 grams of opium, two firearms, ammunition, and a replica handgun firearm, police said.
Kushdeep Kaur, 25, was charged with two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition.
Balpreet Kaur, 26, and Arun Kumar, 20, were both charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Four males, including two aged 16 and 17, are facing several charges for firearm possession in Oshawa.
Durham cops say, on Sunday at around 2:40 a.m., they responded to the area of Saguenay Ave. and Rideau St. after receiving reports of a male brandishing a firearm among a group of people.
Officers arrived at the scene and located several individuals filming a music video in two vehicles. Everyone was ordered to exit the vehicles and cops located two firearms with loaded magazines.
Dylon Tajay Barclay, 19, from Whitby, Juan Pablo Alejandro Villatoro, 20, from Clarington, a 17-year-old boy from Pickering and a 16-year-old boy from Oshawa are all charged with possession of a firearm no licence, possession of a loaded firearm, and occupy motor vehicle with a firearm.
Police said, at the time of his arrest, the Oshawa youth was already on conditions not to possess any weapons after being arrested for a similar offence earlier this year. He was also charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.
