Air Canada has extended its flight cancellations to two destinations in Israel and the United Arab Emirates amid military strikes across the Middle East.

The Canadian airline said on Monday it was suspending its flights to Tel Aviv and Dubai from Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga.

The cancellations were slated to last until March 23, but have now been extended “due to the military situation in the Middle East.” The Toronto-to-Dubai flight is on hold until at least March 28, while the Toronto-to-Tel Aviv route is paused until May 2.

“We are monitoring the situation and will adjust our schedule accordingly,” the airline said in a post on social media.

Passengers impacted by the flight suspensions can change their flights free of charge.

Air Canada says it is adding capacity to its Delhi-bound flights “to provide travellers with options to Canada.”

Cancelled and delayed flights began impacting travel schedules at Toronto Pearson Airport and other Canadian airports on Saturday, hours after the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran.

More than 108,000 Canadians in the region have registered with Global Affairs Canada, and about 3,500 of them have asked for help to leave.

Returning travellers described a long and anxious process to find their way home. Meanwhile, the Canadian government announced Friday it had secured hundreds of seats on chartered and commercial flights out of the region.
