There’s no easy answer for the Washington Wizards right now, as a number of players may be tasked with taking the last shot as the season goes along.

CJ McCollum is the most likely recipient for now, as he averaged 5.9 points and shot 41.7 percent from three for the New Orleans Pelicans in fourth quarters last season. Unfortunately, he’ll likely be benched at the end of games moving forward as players such as Tre Johnson, Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr get more reps.

The Wizards aren’t going to actively try to win games next year, and that’s OK. The 2025-26 season is more about development while trying to land the No. 1 pick next year before opening up max cap space in the summer of 2026.
