The Just Like Home Lodge housing project for health professionals in Campbell River has reached a construction milestone and remains on schedule to be built by this summer.

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) announced that the major concrete pour for the building’s slab-on-grade foundation is now finished. With the foundation in place, the structure will soon begin to rise above ground.

The lodge is designed to improve access to care for patients and their families travelling to Campbell River for specialized medical services. The facility will also support medical professionals serving the community by providing workforce housing.

Located steps away from the hospital, which serves 32 communities across the North Island and North Coast, the 10-bedroom facility will include private sleeping rooms and washrooms, a communal living space, a shared kitchen, and laundry facilities. The site will also feature recreational vehicle spaces with hookups and a walkway for easy hospital access.

According to the SRD, the building will serve as a vital regional resource by supporting those travelling for medical care while helping to attract and retain healthcare professionals.

Construction is expected to conclude this summer, with plans to welcome guests in the fall, said the SRD.
