ROCKVILLE, Md. (7News) — Helping students cope with stress, anxiety, and depression in a healthy way was the goal of Thursday night’s mental health panel held in Rockville, Maryland.

Families gathered at Parkland Magnet Middle School to support youth on finding support for mental health struggles, even receiving encouraging messages from an Olympian.

“When you’re an athlete, sometimes people put you on a pedestal and whether it’s fair or not fair. So accepting that pressure but also understanding what your role is you have an opportunity to connect with people,” Olympian marathoner Mo’ath Alkhawaldeh said.

The event was hosted by “Athletes for Hope,” a nonprofit that works with athletes for community and charitable causes.
