Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested two men for allegedly possessing guns during a traffic stop in the West End neighbourhood on Friday.

WPS said police officers stopped a taxi on Logan Avenue after they noticed the passenger was allegedly yelling at a pedestrian in a bus stop nearby.

“A traffic stop resulted in officers locating a .22 calibre handgun on one man and a sawed-off shot gun on the other man,” WPS said. “One of the men also produced false identification.”

Police arrested both the men without incident and seized the guns.

WPS said they already had warrants for the arrest of one of the men, 36-year-old Andrew Shayne Guinto, for his suspended parole and for being unlawfully at large.

Guinto was also charged with several counts of possession of firearms, including, unauthorized possession, concealed carry, possession against prohibition order and use of firearm while committing an indictable offence. He was also charged with possession of false identification.

Charles Roger Knott, 32, faces charges for unauthorized possession of firearms, concealed carry, tampering with serial number of a firearm and failure to comply with condition of undertaking.

Both men are in custody.

The allegations have yet to be tested in court.
