ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (March 7, 2026) — No. 3 Lubbock Christian University fell 4-0 to Division I opponent University of New Mexico Friday afternoon at McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium, as the Lobos captured the doubles point and secured three singles victories to claim the dual in the first all-time regular season meeting between the programs.
Doubles play opened with the Chaparrals striking first at the No. 3 position. Marco Seccia, ranked No. 70 nationally in singles, teamed with Andrea Rossi Principe to post a convincing 6-2 win over Philip Bosin and Dario Ciobotaru, giving LCU early momentum. New Mexico quickly answered at No. 2 doubles, where Connor Dils and Tyler Waddock defeated the nationally ranked pairing of Andres De Los Rios (No. 13 singles) and Pablo Segura (No. 17 singles) by a 6-3 margin to level the doubles competition. The doubles point was ultimately decided at the top flight, where Alberto Perez and Jakub Prachar edged LCU’s nationally ranked tandem of Mattia Ghedin and Kelly Giese, ranked No. 33 in doubles, 6-4.
Singles competition saw New Mexico capitalize on the lower half of the lineup. Tyler Waddock was the first to finish, defeating Jordan Georgiev 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles to give the Lobos a 2-0 lead. Moments later, Connor Dils topped Hayden Loffler 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 position to move New Mexico within one point of clinching the dual. The deciding point came at No. 4 singles, where Prachar outlasted Rossi Principe 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the tightest completed match of the afternoon to seal the 4-0 victory.
Three remaining singles matches were halted once the team result was decided, though LCU held promising positions on multiple courts. At No. 1 singles, Giese — the nation’s No. 2-ranked player — captured a tight opening set 7-6 and led 4-2 in the second against Ciobotaru when play was stopped. Segura, ranked No. 17 nationally, had rallied to force a third set at No. 2 singles against Bosin, while Ghedin, ranked No. 54 nationally, was also battling in a third set against Perez at No. 3 singles when the match concluded.
Despite the setback, the Chaparrals continued to test themselves against elite competition. LCU (8-4) dropped to 0-2 this season against NCAA Division I programs while maintaining a demanding schedule that has also included multiple nationally ranked Division II opponents and a top NJCAA program.
LCU will quickly return to the court Saturday when the Chaparrals host Colorado Mesa University in a 2:30 p.m. dual at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.
