Ottawa Senators defenceman Jake Sanderson left Saturday’s game against the Kraken and did not return because of an upper-body injury after a hit from Seattle defenceman Brandon Montour.

In the second period, Sanderson went to retrieve a puck in the corner and was hit hard into the boards by Montour.

He skated gingerly to the Ottawa bench and held his right shoulder as he went down the tunnel. He was officially ruled out for the night later in the game.

Montour was not penalized on the play.

“You hate seeing a teammate go down, so hopefully he’s doing not too bad,” defenceman Thomas Chabot said via Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch.

Head coach Travis Green did not have an update on his injured defenceman after the game.

Sanderson was a plus-1 with three shots on goal and one blocked shot in 12:52 before departing as the Sens went on to win 7-4.

The 23-year-old Sanderson has 11 goals and 37 assists for 48 points in 62 games so far this season for Ottawa while averaging a career-high 24:49 of ice time per game.

The Sens will be back in action on Monday evening in Vancouver against the Canucks.
