Police have cleared a Kitchener high school, and multiple nearby schools, after several hold and secures and a lockdown was issued on Monday.

Waterloo regional police responded to a weapon-related call in Kitchener, which put Grand River Collegiate Institute (GRCI) in a lockdown “as a safety precaution.”

That has since been lifted, officials said in an update around 12:50 p.m.

Nearby Crestview Public School, Chicopee Hills Public School and Stanley Park Public School have also had hold and secure measures lifted.

It was just before 10 a.m. when police shared the news of that ongoing investigation, driving an increased police presence to the area of Indian Road and Heritage Drive.
