More than $1.8 million was raised during Surrey Hospitals Foundation’s 9th annual Celebration of Care gala on Feb. 28.

The “Journey”-themed event was a sold-out night of fun and fundraising at Aria Banquet and Conference Centre for close to 500 business leaders, philanthropists, physicians and civic leaders.

Funds support the Women, Children and Youth Pillar of Care, strengthening maternal and neonatal care for families across Surrey and the South Fraser region.

Surrey Memorial Hospital delivers more than 6,000 babies each year, most of any general hospital in the Lower Mainland. The hospital also serves as a provincial referral centre for complex and high-risk pregnancies.

The foundation’s gala had “an elegant setting inspired by themes of new beginnings and care, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere for guests gathered in support of parents, newborns and families,” raved Katherine Comberbach, director of marketing and communications for Surrey Hospitals Foundation.

Presented by Berezan Group and EllisDon, the big fundraiser featured music duo Destineak, a live auction, whisky tasting lounge, live painting, fashion sketches, photo booth, chai cart, signature cocktails and more.
