Rumours have been circulating, but documents filed with the City of Brampton now show more concrete plans that Walmart is looking to settle into a new home in Brampton.
The retail giant, which already operates five supercentres in Brampton, is eyeing Bramalea City Centre for its next store.
Brampton planning department information shows that Walmart intends to occupy the former Decathlon retail space in the shopping mall located at 24 Peel Centre Drive.
Walmart has been asked to comment further and confirm their plans, but has yet to respond to inquiries from INsauga.com.
However, the planning information posted on the City of Brampton website shows that Walmart intends to make some changes at the mall to accommodate its arrival.
Plans include gutting the current interior space and reconstructing the area to match the typical shopping spaces found at other Walmart stores.
As well, they plan to repaint the exterior of the building to match the colours of the Walmart brand and install a new sign.
Additionally, a pickup area for online shoppers will be added to the southeast side of the building, and the general parking area in front of the store will be reconfigured so that more parking spaces.
The location of a seasonal garden centre area is identified on the site plan.
There is no indication of when Walmart intends to open the new store if all building approvals are granted.
