An NHL insider has given an update on General Manager Patrik Allvin’s future with the Vancouver Canucks organization, with the club set to miss the playoffs again.

A rebuild is necessary for the Vancouver Canucks and it’s something that a good chunk of the fan base has been calling for for a while now, but it’s unclear if the organization has the right people in place, both on the management and coaching side of things, to ensure it’ll be a success.

Making big changes off the ice is easier said than done, especially with the ownership group the Vancouver Canucks have in place, but it’s certainly possible that something could happen, whether it’s with Patrik Allvin or Jim Rutherford, before the 2026-27 season begins.

Insider gives update on Patrik Allvin’s future with the Vancouver Canucks

While making an appearance on Halford and Brough on Monday, Sat Shah discussed potential off-ice changes the Vancouver Canucks could make and it’s safe to say that fans shouldn’t hold their breath.

According to Shah, he’s heard that there are rumors about Patrik Allvin being replaced after the regular season concludes, but isn’t sure if it’ll happen because the ownership group might not want to pay people not to work, just to bring in another General Manager if the team is going to be bad again next season or even the season after.

“Sat on Allvin’s future:

Mentions he has heard the rumors about how he might get replaced but does ownership really want to pay people not to work when the team is going to be bad anyways? Especially if they let Foote go. Will they want to pay multiple people?” @taj1944 said.

Since being hired by the Vancouver Canucks in January of 2022, the Vancouver Canucks have made the playoffs once, which came in 2024 when they were one win away from the Western Conference Final.

Aside from that, it hasn’t been a great tenure by any means for Patrik Allvin and the rest of his front office and with that being said, it’s understandable as to why there’s people questioning if he should still be GM that takes this group through a rebuild.

If Vancouver decides to make a change, and that’s a big if, there won’t be a shortage of candidates for the higher ups to choose from, with former Canucks defenseman Marc Bergevin, Hockey Hall of Famers Chris Pronger and Brendan Shanahan among potential options.
