Region of Peel – Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have arrested and charged a young person in connection with two separate ride-share carjackings in Brampton.
On Sunday, March 1, at approximately 7:50 p.m., a ride-share driver was robbed at gunpoint in the area of Cedar Lake Crescent. The suspect, posing as a customer and wearing a face covering, pulled out a handgun and demanded that the victim get out of the vehicle before fleeing in it.
On Monday, March 2, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a second ride-share driver was robbed at gunpoint in the area of Salisbury Circle after picking up a passenger. The suspect again fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Patrol officers from 22 Division quickly located the second stolen vehicle nearby. The suspect fled on foot, discarded a loaded firearm, and was arrested a short distance away. The firearm was recovered by police.
As a result, investigators identified the suspect in both incidents as a 17-year-old from Brampton, who has been charged with the following offences:

Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Firearm x2
Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x2
Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order x2
Failure to Comply with Sentence or Disposition x2
Fail to Comply with Release Order x2
The accused was held for a bail hearing and attended The Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person, and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
