A man recently released from custody is facing new charges after police say a security guard at a downtown Winnipeg hotel was threatened with a knife early Monday morning.
A source has told CBC News the suspect, 46, is the same man who was arrested in connection with a fight with a security guard at the downtown Dollarama store on Feb. 28 . The store is located across the street from the Radisson Hotel, where CBC confirmed the latest incident occurred.
He was facing charges of robbery and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm in connection with that incident. He was released from custody on a condition to appear in court at a later date.
The suspect, whom police have not named, has not been formally charged in either incident.
In a news release, Winnipeg police say they were called to the Radisson Hotel on Portage Avenue at around 12:25 a.m. on March 9.
Officers said a man asked to leave the vestibule of the hotel pulled out a knife and threatened to kill a security guard.
Minutes later, police say, they found the suspect walking in the area of Portage Avenue and Smith Street, where he was taken into custody. Officers found a knife during his arrest.
He’s now facing charges of possession of a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order. The man was released from custody on an undertaking.

Video of the Dollarama incident shared on Facebook showed a security guard straddling a man lying on the floor, punching and kicking him at one point, before pulling him upward and slamming him down again.
The video sparked outcry from Indigenous leaders, who said the man in the video being assaulted is Indigenous. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and the Southern Chiefs’ Organization both called for an investigation into the security guard.
The 23-year-old security guard was arrested March 2 on charges of assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
Investigators said the guard threatened to kill the alleged shoplifter and assaulted him using brass knuckles after stopping the man from leaving the store.
Winnipeg police said Tuesday the guard has since been formally charged but they aren’t releasing his name.
Impact Security Group, which was providing security services at Dollarama, said the guard was removed from active duty while it investigates the incident.Â

An assistant general manager at the Radisson referred CBC’s questions to Canad Inns which owns and operates the hotel.
CBC has reached out to the hotel chain for comment.
The downtown Dollarama has since reopened after being closed following the Feb. 28 incident.Â
CBC observed guards from a different company working within the store.
