Peel police have charged a Toronto police officer with sexual assault in connection with an investigation by their Special Victims Unit.
Police said in addition to the three counts of sexual assault, 39-year-old Farhan Ali from Markham is also facing three counts of assault and four counts of mischief.
They did not release further details about the investigation that led to the charges, saying the matter is now before the courts.
Meanwhile, Toronto police would only confirm that Ali has been suspended with pay per the requirements of the Community Safety and Policing Act.
A Toronto police spokesperson said the allegations against Ali occurred when he was off duty.
